Welcome to the 1909 Sears Special Motorbuggy Circular Page

So you want to see the Motsinger Switch Patent Filing papers for a Sears Automobile? Well, you have found the right page.

The switch used on the Sears Motorbuggy was made by the Motsinger Manufacturing Company of Lafyette, IN. These papers show that a patent was filed on March 28, 1908 and was granted on October 19th, 1909.

The switch was a basically a 3-way switch where a common pole could be connected to either of two other poles. This would accomodate a car with a magneto and battery.

A 2-way version of this switch was made by John J. Daly for his Sears and the mechanical drawings needed to make it can be found here: Switch Mechanical Drawings. You can also find pictures of the switch plate covers that were used.
